How To Connect MacBook To A Projector
Get An Adapter And HDMI Cable
You can connect MacBook to a projector using DVI, VGA or HDMI cable. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide HDMI or VGA ports on their Macs. So, you have to buy the adapter separately. There are various adapters in the market, but make sure to buy the right one. First, identify what type of ports your MacBook and the projector have.
For MacBook early 2015 and later/MacBook Pro late 2016 and later, you can use USB-C VGA multi-adapter or USB-C Digital AV Multi-adapter. If you own MacBook or MacBook Pro late 2008 and later, use Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. You will also need a video cable, like VGA or HDMI cable.
Connect MacBook To Projector
Before you plug the cable and the adapter to MacBook and projector, you have to turn on both devices. Connect the adapter to one of the MacBook ports. Then connect the one end of HDMI or VGA cable to the projector and the other end to the adapter. Make sure the cable and adapter are plugged perfectly.
Set Up Your Mac
After you connect MacBook to a projector using the cable and adapter, it’s time to set up your MacBook. Here are the steps:
- Click the Apple logo on the right corner of your MacBook screen and select System Preferences.
- On the new pane, find Displays and click on it.
- Once the Display pane appears, click the drop-down menu tab next to the “Optimize For”. Here, you will see your projector name. Click on it.
- Click Arrangement on the upper menu tab of Display pane and make sure to tick the “Mirror Displays” box.
That’s all. Now, you are ready to do a presentation or watch a movie from your MacBook using the projector.
